The Aboriginals are the indigenous people of Australia and constitute 2.2 % of the Australian population. Their name, aborigines, is a foreign word which means the same as “earliest known” or “the first”. In other words, the aborigines were the first known humans in Australia. The aborigines originate from Southeast Asia, but we assume they travelled over the Indian Ocean to the Australian continent around 40- 50 000 years ago, and therefore we look at them as one of the world’s oldest natives.
